Basketball
The women of McCrite Plaza waited patiently, and as planning started for the third sports commercial from McCrite Plaza, it was the women’s time to shine! Without corporate hoops to jump through, Pat McCrite and the women were on the court in no time.
The team includes 9 McCrite Plaza residents with Pat leading the team as coach, once again. See players’ bios at the bottom of the page and click below to view the commercial!
Football
The McCrite family has a passion for football. Pat McCrite attended college on a football scholarship as did his son Cassidy. Both Pat and Cassidy held coaching positions at Washburn University in Topeka.
With football top of mind, we had an idea of creating our own team with the residents from our community. Comprised of eight of our toughest residents and Pat leading the team, we are proud to present the 2017 McCrite Plaza football squad. Click below to view our football commercial!
Baseball
After creating the football commercial in 2017, Pat decided to keep the sports fever going and began recruiting a baseball team.
But injuries happen in sports, especially at this age. Thankfully, McCrite Plaza’s rehabilitation center comes to the rescue and gets our players safe at home.

Donald Brown – Football
An avid outdoors man, Donald Brown, spent many hours fishing, hunting, and gardening. When he wasn’t providing handy-man tasks around the house, he and his wife, Mary, enjoyed going to movies, spending time with friends and family and landscaping their four acre homestead together. As residents of McCrite Plaza they enjoy discovering new social groups and making friends, which comes easily to both Mary and Don. Mary admits to not watching much football, but Don’s late-in-life introduction to playing has not deterred him. His enthusiasm for the game makes him a valuable member of the team.
Delno Malmstrom – Football
Delno joined the McCrite Plaza family 3 years ago. His lifetime career as a chiropractor mentally prepared him for the concentration required on the football field. His favorite activities at McCrite Plaza include: exercise and balance classes and mornings on the putting green.
Gary Shofner – Baseball
Gary joined the McCrite Plaza family 1 year ago and brought along some previous baseball experience with the American Legion baseball team. Gary’s favorite activities in the community are cards and happy hour. In his free time, Gary enjoys watching sports and fishing.
Harry TenEyck – Baseball
Harry joined the McCrite Plaza family 3 years ago. He played baseball for 2 years in high school, so he’s the professional out there. In addition to hitting home runs, Harry was the champion of McCrite Plaza’s putting tournament in 2017 and 2018. In his free time, Harry enjoys hunting, fishing, watching sports, and playing cards.
Mary Alice Stroud – Basketball
Mary Alice joined the McCrite Plaza family in spring 2017. Although her signature alley-oop is what earned her the nickname “Alley-oop Stroud”, basketball is not her primary athletic ability. Mary Alice started a shuffleboard team at McCrite Plaza and led the McCrite Warriors Shuffleboard team to winning 1st place in the 2018 Senior Games. In addition to shuffleboard, Mary Alice plays golf, attends exercise classes, is active on the Resident Council, and volunteers as a McCrite Marketeer.
Gerry King – Basketball
Gerry joined the McCrite Plaza family in summer 2018. You may recognize her as the face of the basketball team, but Gerry “Jumper” King does so much more in the McCrite Plaza community. She enjoys happy hour, movies in the theatre, women’s breakfasts, and art and exercise classes. Like any other basketball great Gerry shares a love of classic cars. When not practicing her jump shot you may find her attending sporting events with her grandchildren who seem to have inherited her athletic ability.
